The path of Kärnäkoski Fortress is a really beautiful and historically diverse path. You can reach the trail by parking your car in the parking lot near the Kärnäkoski mill and fortress. The trail starts on the other side of Partakoskentie and leads its way to the old lotja harbor and from there back to Kärnäkoski fortress. Along the way there will be the shed of the mountain fortress, the lotja harbor and the mountain fortress (Redutti). Kärnäkoski Fortress is not a long way to Partaranta either, where you can find services and more to see, e.g. a beautiful stone bridge over Partakoski.
ATTENTION: When visiting Kärnäkoski, please note, to use parking areas. The road should be kept clear. Please also respect the boundaries of private areas. In summer, sheep work as gardeners in the fort, and bringing dogs into the fort is prohibited. Give the sheep possibility to full fill their task.
It is safest to move in a group if you do not know the terrain or the water area. Before the excursion, it is advisable to acquire the necessary maps and guides and check the weather forecast, particularly when going boating. Wear sturdy footwear and clothes that suit the weather. It is recommended that you take first aid equipment, rainwear, a spare set of clothes, as well as enough drinks with you, particularly in the summer. Remember to wear a floating vest when boating.
In wet weather and in winter, duckboards, rocks and piers can be slippery.
During the snowy season, the trails and routes are not maintained.
