Siikalahti is the most valuable bird wetland in Inland Finland. There are hundreds of bird and plant species in the nature reserve, some of them very rare. Butterflies and dragonflies are also worth exploring. The easiest way to visit the gorgeous Siikalahti is from a platform by the road. You will also find a birdwatching tower and a bird hide closer to the mid-part of the wetland. There is a birdwatching tower suitable for families with children close to Siikalahti Nature Information Hut, by the edge of the wetland. The nature information hut and the information boards provide you with information on the species and the wetland. It is easy to walk along the trails and duckboards. By the nature information hut, there is a campfire shelter where you can have snacks. There is a toilet in the parking area.
The Siikalahti area is managed by Metsähallitus.

The trail is suitable for all kinds of footwear. In some places, the drop from the duckboards is quite long, but the duckboards are wide and sturdy.
It is safest to move in a group if you do not know the terrain or the water area. Before the excursion, it is advisable to acquire the necessary maps and guides and check the weather forecast, particularly when going boating. Wear sturdy footwear and clothes that suit the weather. It is recommended that you take first aid equipment, rainwear, a spare set of clothes, as well as enough drinks with you, particularly in the summer. Remember to wear a floating vest when boating.
In wet weather and in winter, duckboards, rocks and piers can be slippery.
During the snowy season, the trails and routes are not maintained.
