Huuhanranta is amongst the longest open sandy beaches of Lake Saimaa. It has been listed as one of the most gorgeous sandy beaches in Finland. People come here from far and wide.
The 1.5 km-long Huuhanranta Beach has also been called Huuhanhiekka Beach and the Riviera of Lake Saimaa. Huuhanranta has fine sand and the water gets deep very slowly. You can wade up to 100 m from the shoreline. You can enjoy a summer’s day on the beach, where Huuhanselkä opens up to the south, and watch boat traffic in Kutvele Canal. You can arrive on the shore, or close to it, by canoe, as well as by boat by steering the bow to the shore. There is a car parking area on top of the slope. From the parking area, the walking distance to the beach is about 200 m. The excursion facilities are available at the western end of the area, which is owned by the South Karelian Foundation for Recreation Areas. On the sunlit slope, the insect species are examined.
